In Bed With the Devil (Avon Romantic Treasure)
Daughter of ailing earl has been inviting infamous "Devil" duke to her balls since she 1st saw him years ago but to no avail. Hero avoids the social whirl b/c he thinks he's probably not really a duke b/c he can't remember his own parents. Heroine approaches Hero in person with a proposition--to have him kill someone without disclosing her reasons. Hero agrees to do it in exchange for heroine teaching his childhood friend & future fiance how to be a lady. Their attraction to each other burgeons the more time they spend together.Heath's books usually captivate my attention & imagination. This one did not. I was bored by this predictable & drawn-out book. The characterization was inconsistent (i.e., heroine portrayed as conventional & proper but yet had a too-casual approach to sex & spending time alone with Hero ). Heroine's reason for wanting someone dead was weak. Sexual chemistry was ok but wasn't prolonged well. If the book was 100 pages less, it wouldn't have taken so long for the love scenes to finally culminate. This book just seemed redundant & prolonged for the sake of having so many pages. I skimmed & skipped after the 1st quarter until about 3/4 of the way. My emotions were only engaged in the last quarter of the book, when the romance between H & h became the main focus & was dealt with more directly like Heath does in her other books.
Can only recommend the 1st & last 1/4 of the book.
