Blackmailing The Society Bride

Blackmailing the Society Bride: Jet Set Wives - Penny Jordan Successful party organizer is facing ruin after her ex-husband defrauded her business & destroyed her professional reputation as a result. She wants to prove to her longtime trustee Hero that she can fix her business problems without his financial help & only tells him the bare minimum of her plans with a promising investor. As limiting as she is in allowing Hero in her work life, heroine is much more open with him when it comes to her personal life. She seduces him into a 1-night stand with her. He soon proposes marriage of convenience due to his desire to be married and to help her have a more stable life. Heroine tries to back out of her planned business venture with her investor but the investor threatens her marriage & Hero’s life if she does. Her ex-husband’s partnership with the investor makes the threat more real. What chance does their marriage stand with the blackmail?

The emotional tone of this book is the only thing I could recommend. Jordan knows how to weave her stories to make the reader sit up & pay attention. I didn’t like the unequal romance between heroine who suffered unrequited love for years for Hero & Hero who knew about it all along & was irritated by it until now that she serves his purposes. Hero treated her with impatience & contempt during the 10 or so years since he became her trustee just so she stops mooning over him. He didn’t even any tender feelings for her during the first time they had sex. He really didn’t develop those feelings for her until the end of the book. And it was more of feelings of possession than love. Their relationship was very unequal & probably always will be.

I didn’t like the main characters much. Hero was a very controlled & controlling person. He played the heroine like she was his puppet. And the sad thing is, she was such a fool & doormat with him that she allowed his manipulations. It only made her look stupid that, in the one area that she held her ground (her business), she made some huge mistakes in partnering with the wrong people. As successful as heroine was in her business she was a gullible fool when in came to men.

Minimally recommende.
