Dark Ransom
Average-looking elderly-caregiver travels to the Amazon to finally experience an adventure & find the long-lost grandson of 1 of her patients whose money financed her trip. She's mistaken for the another woman in her boat who took a return trip back as soon as they docked & was taken to Hero's family estate. Hero thinks heroine is the replacement of his mistress no matter her protests & seduces her. Finding out she was a virgin makes Hero demand marriage & heroine's resistance doesn't last long. The unexpected arrival of the grandson of her former patient who she was looking for adds an element of challenge to their r/s & danger to heroine. A fast read but not a good one. The drama & quick turns of events made this book interesting. But heroine was a doormat & didn't have high standards for herself or her romantic partner. She allowed Hero to treat her like a substitute for the beautiful mistress he had who changed her mind. Her protests didn't mean much at all when her actions belied her interests in Hero. She let him have sex with her on the 1st night they met & he was clear about being disappointed that it was her instead of his mistress who showed up. Her protests about marrying him was weak also. If she really meant "no" then she would've done all she could to not marry him. Their love for each other was not believable. They hardly knew each other nor liked each other much. Hero was more indifferent to heroine while heroine showed more interest in him. They had a bad start for what is a likely bad future together.
I'd skip this one if you're looking for a touching romance.
