Black Ties and Lullabies

Black Ties and Lullabies - Jane Graves No-nonsense 36yo bodyguard of wealthy playboy Hero quits her job after his cavalier attitude of a dangerous situation she rescued him from. She tells him what she thinks of his womanizing ways & uncaring attitude and her confrontation ignites more than anger. They have sex right before she leaves him. He tries to get her back to work for him but heroine won’t relent and want nothing to do with him. But when she finds out she’s pregnant she approaches him to sign papers to release him from any legal obligations to their child. Hero surprises both of them by not only rejecting the legal papers but pushing his way to take care of her and their child. Heroine does her best to resist him knowing that letting him in to her life will cause her eventual heartbreak. Will Hero prove her different?

This book wasn’t as funny as Graves’ other books but it had some funny moments. The characters had their quirks yet were relatable. I liked Hero’s softening & obsessing over heroine who he didn’t even view as a woman for the years she worked as a bodyguard for him. He couldn’t stop seeing her as a sexual being after she told him off and had angy sex with him right before she walked out of her job.

What I didn’t like was Hero’s man-ho ways. He slept with countless blond big-boobed women. He also slept with other women after having sex with heroine that 1st time even though he supposedly couldn’t get heroine out of his mind. He was so promiscuous that he had to use a condom even when she was pregnant to protect her and their unborn baby. It was an ‘ewww’ moment. At least he was celibate after she informed him of her pregnancy & turned down other women’s blatant invitations. I was iffy about heroine. She seemed outwardly strong & independent in not needing a man in her life. Yet she was insecure about her looks & her worthiness for rich & attractive Hero. It made look kinda pathetic. She was into him more than he was with her. It made me wonder if he would have chased after her if she wasn’t having his baby. The baby was really the holding ground for their r/s. Love did develop especially on Hero’s part but it made me wonder how faithful he’ll be to her in the future when things between them settled down and the fire isn’t as hot between them.

Partially recommended.
